body shapers during pregnancy (please read)?

My friend is pregnant and always wore a body shaper and heels before pregnancy. She wears the shorts style that comes just above her naval and the cami style that comes mid waist. The dr. told her she could wear heels so long as she was use to them but I dont know if she asked about the body shapers.
She is now 12 weeks pregnant and is still wearing them. She is 5′9″ and 125lbs, so she obviously doesnt need the shaper to begin with.
Last week she began to complain that her back hurt. It felt like her spine was being pulled mid-way to the lower part of it (she said). People told her it was the baby making room in her tummy, but those people dont know what she wears UNDER her clothes.
My question is: what if any thing could her wearing these body shapers do to her baby (could it warp its shape or cause it problems, etc). I dont want to start an issue with her in order to get her to stop wearing it until I have all of my facts together. Thanks.
